Fashion designer and stylist L’Wren Scott was found dead yesterday morning. The longtime girlfriend of Rolling Stones leader Mick Jagger, was found in her Manhattan apartment due to an apparent suicide, police said, according to New York Daily News.

A police official said that Scott’s assistant found the stylist hanging from a doorknob at around 10 a.m. Monday morning. No note was immediately found. A spokesperson for Jagger told Billboard in a statement that he is “completely shocked and devastated by the news.”

Scott and Jagger have dated since 2001, and she also designed his costumes of the band’s 50th anniversary tour. “Shirts, suits, jackets– sometimes I’ll see great fabrics and I’ll just buy them for him and say: “I’ve got these beautiful fabrics to make little jackets or suits for you,” she told The Hollywood Reporter last year.

Born Luann Bambrough, Scott, the adopted daughter of an insurance worker and a local banker in Utah, left the U.S. at 17 after photographer Bruce Weber advised her to explore modeling. She went straight to Paris, where she landed a booking at a Chanel couture show and quickly started getting modeling appearances. In 1994, Scott moved to California to begin working with Herb Ritts as a stylist, and developed long-lasting relationships with Nicole Kidman, Sarah Jessica Parker and Christina Hendricks. Her first fashion collection as a designer, ‘Little Black Dress,’ launched in 2006. In 2011, L’Wren introduced her first collection of hangbags, named ‘Lula’ after her mother.

Scott canceled her London Fashion Week show last month, reportedly due to production delays. The Rolling Stones have postponed their Australian tour following the tragic news.
